Profound alternatives for small and mid-size agencies

Profound is built for enterprise brands. If your agency manages 5–30 clients on normal retainers, these alternatives fit the budget and the workflow better.

Profound is the most ambitious product in AI visibility: up to nine answer engines, prompt-volume data, AI agents that draft content, SOC 2 and SSO. It's built for enterprise marketing teams, and for those teams it's often the right choice. For an agency with 5–30 clients on retainers of a few thousand euros, the question isn't whether Profound is good. It's whether you can carry its cost per client and whether you need what it does.

What Profound costs

On 9 October 2026, Profound's public pricing page showed two options: a free trial (50 prompts from a recommended set, tracked daily for 7 days, on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews) and a custom-priced Enterprise plan with up to nine engines, SSO and SOC 2.

Earlier in 2026, Profound also sold self-serve plans. Third-party reviews report Starter at $99 a month and Growth at $399 a month, both billed annually, and an agency plan where each full client workspace costs $399 a month. Third-party estimates for Enterprise contracts run from about $2,000 to over $5,000 a month; Profound doesn't publish them. Pricing has changed several times this year, so ask Profound what's available before you build a budget on it.

At $399 per client workspace, ten clients is about $4,000 a month in tooling — more than many small agencies charge one client for SEO.

What you'd give up

Be clear about this before switching. The alternatives below don't match Profound on:

  • Engine breadth. Up to nine engines, including Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude and ChatGPT Shopping.
  • Prompt-volume data. Estimates of how often topics are asked, useful for prioritising prompts.
  • Agents and content workflows. Profound helps create content, not only measure.
  • Enterprise requirements. SSO, SOC 2, procurement-friendly contracts.

If a client needs those, keep Profound for that client.

Ranxii

The narrowest alternative and the one built for the small-agency workflow. Add a client's website; Ranxii suggests about 20 buyer questions and 3–5 competitors. You edit them, and every question is asked on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity once a week. Every answer is stored with client and competitor mentions highlighted and cited sources extracted. Each month a report is prepared with your agency's logo and colour, to share as a private link or PDF.

The difference in philosophy: Ranxii doesn't produce a visibility score or a rank. It shows observed rates — "mentioned in 31 of 100 answers, competitor in 57" — and each number opens the answers behind it. That makes it easy to explain to a client and hard to argue with.

Where it falls short of Profound: three engines, weekly cadence, no AI Overviews, no prompt-volume data, no content agents, no API. It tells you what happened; the strategy is yours.

Peec AI

The closest in spirit to Profound's analytics at a mid-market price: competitor views, source analysis, unlimited seats, an agency program. Its pricing page didn't display prices when we checked; 2026 reviews put Starter at about €85–$95 a month for around 50 prompts. Calculate your full roster — see Peec AI alternatives for how prompt-based pricing scales.

Otterly.AI

The low-cost option: $29 a month for 15 daily prompts on ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot; $189 for 100 prompts with unlimited workspaces and a Looker Studio connector. Strong for two or three brands. At agency scale, prompt packs and engine add-ons are what to watch — see Otterly alternatives.

Scrunch

If engine breadth is why you liked Profound, Scrunch includes ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Mode, AI Overviews and Meta on every plan, from $250 a month billed annually with 350 prompts.

Semrush AI Visibility and Ahrefs Brand Radar

If your agency already runs on one of these suites, start there: Semrush at $99 per domain per month for 25 daily prompts, Ahrefs with custom prompts from €47 a month and a market-level AI Visibility Index. More in Semrush vs Ahrefs for AI visibility.

A split that works for many agencies

You don't have to pick one tool for every client. A pattern that holds up:

  • Enterprise client with procurement requirements and a large retainer: the tool their team already uses, often Profound or Scrunch.
  • Every other client: one affordable tool that puts AI visibility into the monthly report for the whole roster.

The test for any tool is simple: divide its monthly cost by the clients it covers, and compare that to what you charge for AI visibility work. If the tool costs more per client than the service earns, it's an enterprise tool, whatever its feature list says. Our guide to pricing GEO services shows typical price points to compare against.
